Back into league action 21/02/15

Cwmcarn welcomed Rhayader to Waunfawr Park on a cold and wet February Sat.

Cwmcarn with a full complement of players kicked off the proceeding up hill against the wind, with Carl "Jabba" Hone stepping in as captain. Rhayader showed great commitment and aggression and were soon on the score board with a penalty.

But it wasn't long before Cwmcarn hit back with a well struck penalty by the reliable boot of Gareth Price.

With the advantage of the slope and some unforced handling errors by the Cwmcarn backs again Rhayader were awarded another Penalty to put them in the lead again at 3 6.

From the KO and a stern telling off by Cwmcarn's captain for the day Carl "JABBA" Hone, Cwmcarn made up their earlier mistakes forcing Rhayader further back and tackling with intent. Forcing another penalty close to the line in Rhayaders desperation to defend. Hone instructed Price to slot over again, score now at 6-6. Another handling error allowed Rhayader to gain the advantage and with the Carn unable to clear their lines again another penalty was awarded to Rhayader which enabled their competant kicker to slot over again.

The game sttled into a kickin contest for the last quarter of the first half and with 10minutetes to go Cwmcarn forced a lineout just outside Rhayaders 22, from the ensuing lineout the ball was moved wide through hands of the Cwmcarn line with cente Chris Hasting only being stopped short of the line, the ball was quickly re cycled and with a long missed pass by scrum half Price Chris Bartlett-Legge skipped, twisted and sidestepped to the line to score Cwmcarn 's first try, with Price converting from the T.

At half time thescore was 13 9

The second half began with Cwmcarn having the advantage of the slope and wind which rejuvenated the team with some surging runs and determined tackling it wasn't long before Cwmcarn was on the scoreboard agsin, Price slotting a 50 mt penalty. The slope proved too much for the tiring Rhayader 8 and it wasn't long and taking into account the amount of pressure that was being exerted by all of the Cwmcarn team that a second try was scored by Bartlett- Legge, Price converted.

From the KO Cwmcarn again cleared and managed to force themseles into the Redzone, some readjustment had to be made with Price leaving the field with an injured wrist. The ball was moved out wide on several occasions and it wasn't long before the mighty Carn were on the scoreboard again, and guess who? yes that Man Bartlett- legge completing his hat trick, with the reliable boot of Price off the Field up stepped Hastings who advanced the score with a well struck kick. Cwmcarn then put on the rest of their replacements whose new legs and ambition showed through. With their first bonus point win of the season within reach, and this came in the dying moments of the game. Cwmcarn finally run out winners 35-9.

The man of the match could have come from any of the players but it was decided that American Football star Chris Bartlett- Legge was to get the Honours. A mention must go to Rhayader RFC whose dogged defence and willingness to play Rugby prevented the score from being even higher.
