West Mon woes

Cwmcarn entertained West Mon RFC at Waunfawr Park due to the Welfare grounds being unavailable.

Cwmcarn started strong and were straight into the battle against the heavier West Mon pack, but Cwmcarn's superior fitness had the edge.

Playing downhill the first half Cwmcarn should have taken full advantage of the slope but were stopped on several times by the West Mons tactics. At half time Cwmcarn were behind by 6-7 the only score for the homesters coming from the boot of Chris Hastings and disputed try for West Mon.

At half time captain Hone laid down the law and taking into account that the Carn had the harder task in the second half of playing up hill.

The second half was a re run of the first half with Cwmcarn dominant in all phases of play but unable to cross the line due to constant slowing down of the game by West Mon. Taking into account the penalty count of 34 for Cwmcarn and 3 for West Mon, there should of been a number yellow cards and a number of reds for the eastern valley outfit.

The game ended in a very disappointing result for Cwmcarn 12-17. But there are glimmers of improvement both in numbers and performance.
